Directed By: Joe Russell

Arthur Kipps, an orphan, is an over-worked draper’s assistant at Shalford’s Bazaar, Folkestone, at the turn of the last century. He is a charming but ordinary young man who, along with his fellow apprentices, dreams of a better and more fulfilling world, but he likes his fun just like any other, except not quite. When Kipps unexpectedly inherits a fortune that propels him into high society, it confuses everything he thought he knew about life.

Watching him wrestle with his new identity is his childhood companion and not-quite girlfriend, Ann Pornick, who sees with dismay how Arthur is being made over in a new image by the beautiful and classy Helen Walsingham. She is always there with helpful hints on how Arthur could improve himself and make his life richer and more meaningful, if only he would believe in himself, and listen to her. Both of these young women love Arthur – there is no doubt about that – but which should he listen to? With the help of his friends, Arthur learns that if you want to have the chance of living the right life, you need to make the right choices.

HANSARD
The Stirling Players

Written By: Simon Woods
Directed By: Sally Putnam

'Hansard' is an intimate domestic drama about a long and troubled marriage. It is also a comedy about politics.
The set is a lovely country mansion inf the Cotswolds. The time is a Saturday morning in the summer of 1988, towards he end of the Thatcher years. It is the home of Tory cabinet member, Robin Hesketh and his politically-opposed, stay-at-home wife of 30 years, Diana.
The play ends with a 'delicate', heart-rending revelation.

Roles Available:
ROBIN HESKETH: A junior minister in Margaret Thatcher's Tory government. He is a product of his upper class upbringing and proud of the part he has played in the recent passing of controversial legislation relating to homosexuality. He essentially considers himself a 'decent', well-bred, well- educated man with absolute unquestioning self-confidence; privileged without being aware if it.

DIANA HESKETH: Robin's long-suffering wife who is diametrically opposed to her husband's political stance. She is a compassionate, caring person, but angry, bored and very cynical about her foundering marriage and her life in general. She is intelligent and ambitious but has never been taken seriously. She feels a combination of frustration and regret about what she could have achieved.
