"I find people hard to understand, not for lack of trying or wanting. Birds aren’t incomprehensible, they have patterns. Clear and distinct. They abide by the design of nature."

Birds, young love, and murder all collide in this tale of shifting truths by Adelaide-based playwright Charlie Kay. Set in current-day Adelaide and taking place over a single Winter, Call of the Malleefowl is the story of Evelyn, a young woman on the Autism Spectrum, as she recollects her encounters with the enigmatic and beautiful Frankie. As the events of the Winter unravel in Evelyn's tale, we learn the sinister truth of what happened and why.
