In 2010 they received the Canadian Aryl Award for excellence in puppetry design for their production of Árash as well as the Tehran Puppet Festival Artists Award for their new production of 'Hanging on the Life'.

Appletree is at the forefront of a revival of traditional Iranian puppetry where there is a thriving culture with puppetry a major part of the theatre courses in universities and a large international puppetry festival staged there every two years.

Their visit to Australia is to promote friendship between their country and Australia, to present their artform to interested people and invite Australian artists to take part in their puppetry festival.
