What are the ATG "Curtain Call" Awards?

The ATG "Curtain Call" awards have become an institution! It is an annual event anticipated by Adelaide's theatre community - both professional and amateur.

This year's event is set to take us back to the roots of theatre with the theme "Greek Gods Of Comedy and Tragedy". The night is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the efforts of the Adelaide theatre community, network with others in the industry and reunite with colleagues of past and present.

In 2013 the event wil be held at a new venue, The Italian Centre, 262 Carrington St. Adelaide.

Our MC for the evening is Johanna Allen, esteemed performer originally from Adelaide.

Johanna Allen has established a career as one of Australia's most versatile Actor/Singers in Music Theatre, Theatre, Opera, Film and Television. After graduating with both a B.A. (Drama Performance) and Bachelor of Music Performance (Hons voice Elder Conservatorium), she was awarded an Emerging Artist Scholarship to study at Juilliard School New York City. As a result, her professional credits span New York, the UK, and Australia. Australian theatre credits include Wicked, Dr Zhivago, The Mikado (Pitti Sing), The Pirates of Penzance (Kate), Into the Woods (Baker's Wife), The Wild Party - Music of Andrew Lippa, Guys and Dolls, Dead Man Walking and The Threepenny Opera for Sydney Theatre Company. State Opera of South Australia credits include Il Trovatore (Inez), Treemonisha (Lucy), and Candide (Old Lady). New York theatre credits are Constanza in Amadeus, Elizabeth Proctor in The Crucible and Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd. Most recently, Johanna played the role of Gussie in a brand new Australian opera, Ode to Nonsense, about the life and mind of Edward Lear.

Johanna's concert credits include performances with the International Montreal Jazz Festival, the Australian Pops Orchestra, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, the New York City Big Band and as backing vocalist for Reece Mastin on the X-Factor Winner Goodnight Tour. Most recently, Johanna premiered her sold-out solo show, Mixtape and other stories, for the Adelaide Cabaret Festival 2012. Her film and television credits include McLeod's Daughter's, Rewind (Seven Network), Travelling Light (Toi toi films/SA Film Corp), The Front Bar (Channel 9), and El Morado (Australian Film Commission).

Johanna is steadily building credits as Director/Producer/Vocal Coach in live performance and television. Most recently she was Casting Producer of Series 1 of The Voice (Shine Television) and Co-Director/Vocal Coach of the Young Talent Time Live National Tour. Johanna has also recorded her first CD, Calling Card, in collaboration with Jazz pianist Mark Ferguson, which is now available on iTunes.

"It is rare to find a performance where acting instinct and voice are so finely crafted. Allen's instrument is extraordinary - See this show for her alone." - Time Out New York
