MISERY Oily Rag Theatre Star Theatres
Drama
Written By: William Goldman
Directed By: Kristin Telfer
The South Australian premiere of William Goldman's stage adaptation of his own screenplay based on Stephen King's iconic psychological horror thriller. Jaded author Paul Sheldon is looking forward to being finally rid of the long-running series of historical romances that earned him fame and fortune, when a car accident in a snowstorm leaves him helpless in the middle of nowhere.
He regains consciousness to find himself terribly injured and in the home of Annie Wilkes, a stranger who came upon the accident scene and is thrilled to be the saviour of the author of her favourite book series. It doesn't take long for Paul to realise that Annie is more than just excitable and eccentric, and that he could be in very real danger isolated and alone, with his life in the hands of his "number one fan".
